Start Out By Making Paper Mache' Batter

The very first step you need to take, is to mix up a bowl of paper mache' batter by combining a cup of flour and enough water to a make a thin runny batter. Add about a teaspoon or two of salt for a preservative and you're ready to go.

Next, tear up some newspaper into one inch wide strips and find some balloons to blow up. Now the fun begins because you're going to make your own paper mache jacko-lanterns. One by one dip the strips into the batter and cover the balloon with them, after you've squeezed them through your fingers to remove the excess batter.

Cover the entire balloon with these batter soaked strips, about three or four layers deep then allow the covered balloon to dry in a cool dry place. A fan and an air conditioner will definitely speed up the drying process.
